Welcome to the Ashford Twins Club. Please meet our committee.

LisaHi, I'm Lisa Lowery, Chairperson of Ashford Twins Club. I moved to Ashford in December 2008 when my twins were 6 months. I had looked up where the local twins club was before I moved as I already went to one in West London and knew how much I looked forward to it once a week. Before moving to Kent I worked in science at the Hammersmith Hospital for 15 years (from Gastroenterolgy to Genomics). The plan was to continue working (partly from home), but things all changed when I found out I was having two! A New Years Eve party at my best friends' house in Ashford was when the seed was planted for me to move away from London. After spending over ten years in football and running my own club, coaching, refereeing, being physio, playing, and organising six teams- looking after twins is a breeze. The refereeing experience certainly comes in handy!

TanyaHi, I am Tanya. I have a 5 year old daughter, Anna, and identical twin boys, Alex and Ollie, who are 2 (where did that go??). I moved back to Kent from Germany 4 years ago, where we lived for 6 years. I initially visited twins club when I was pregnant with the boys but, although welcoming, found the venue very impersonal- not to mention that my daughter would not leave my side, as she was so scared (it was a very loud hall!). It took me another year to pick up the courage to go back again- where the venue had changed- and I have not looked back. It is wonderful spending time with so many other multiples, not to mention having other like-minded parents in the same situation to support you. Nobody judges you, your children or your parenting skills, which as a multiple parent, you sometimes feel when you're out and about. I joined the Committee, to gain some confidence to eventually consider going back to the workplace- and make some lifelong friends!

KatrinaHi- I'm Katrina and with my husband Paul, we were doubly blessed with twin daughters almost 4 years ago. We have been members of the club since the girls were 10 weeks old and have made lots of friends through club since, had loads of fun at events along the way and picked up some invaluable tips from other parents in club regarding raising multiples, the ups and downs, the unique bond that multiples can share together with their quirky little ways, and how you cannot imagine life without them now they are here. This year (2010), I was honoured to have been chosen by the committee and other members as Fundraising Representative, a role which I feel is quite vital for a club that is self-funded through our membership subscriptions, fundraising events and contributions we might be lucky enough to acquire through either donations or successful applications. I am therefore always exploring new fundraising opportunities and welcome input from other members whether it is for involvement, ideas or leads that can be followed up, so if you have any fundraising tips/things that comes to mind, then please let me or and any of the committee members know.

SaraI'm Sara Heffernan and I'm one of the Events Co-ordinators. I've been coming to twins club for just over a year now, since my twins Danny and Fern were one week old - ahh... I found the support amazing, it was brilliant to be among parents who really understood and were more than happy to hold a baby! I became Baby Rep before becoming Events Co-ordinator, as I wanted to give something back to this brilliant club. I love organising the parties and days out, it's great to have a laugh and see everyone enjoying themselves.
